His motivation comes from the knowledge that history has demonstrated that upending a civilization's status quo is the most reliable way to keep it from collapsing, not from a conviction that he can accomplish this vision on his own. It's crucial to remember that the movie won't be out any sooner than planned. Coppola is presenting "Megalopolis" at a moment when the film business is questioning its future and the outside world seems to be about to fall apart, more than 40 years after she first considered this project.
